Wen Jue

Born in 2001, studied at Académie de la Grande Chaumière in 2015, and became a life member of France Taylor Art Foundation in 2019. Currently works and lives in Shanghai.

Wen Jue’s works always have the iconic shield shape and thickly stacked oil paint, similar to religious altars or alternative illusion paintings. The artist deliberately used this frame structure to endow the picture with a “divine spirit”, in response to the history of the Pope in the Baroque period who used art to consolidate his credibility (“sacred and inviolable…”). By using the fluidity of oil paint over time to shape the bas-relief part of this single Compostel structure, a kind of “mimesis” & “reproduction” of history is created.
